Highlights from Sundance: “Timberlake” show

Some time last weekend I decided that I would probably have as good of a chance finding places to DJ during Sundance via social engineering as I would legitimate gigs. Walking down Main St., I decided to stop in at Harry O’s, the biggest club on the street, to see how close I could get to DJing the party that All-American Rejects were playing there that night. After telling about 12 people working various jobs there that I was playing music that night and needed this or that detail taken care of, I had a time slot, a “Talent” VIP badge issued, and a couple VIP wristbands to give out to friends.

Jogged to the condo I was staying at, grabbed my DJ gear, jogged back. The event producer kinda eventually figured out I wasn’t supposed to be playing, but let me anyways—we’ll see if he pays my invoice I’m sending when I get home! Hahaha. Played an hour and a half set, albeit behind a curtain. Saw piles and piles of music hardware backstage labeled “Timbaland” (Justin Timberlake and many many other ultrafamous rap/pop act’s producer), but JT/Timbaland were no-show’s apparently due to a jet stuck in Vegas or something. P Diddy was in attendance though, as well as Eddie Murphy.

Oh, and, the last minute talent they put together instead of JT? Matisyahu. Damnit.
