Extreme Internets Overhaul

So it’s been what, at least good year since I first started putting off redesigning this site. I can remember completing at least three drafts; while they had their merits will never ever see the light of day. I’m either really lazy or really picky when it comes to such things… so either nothing happens or something major.

And then today, with nothing to do and that damn hankering to do something productive, I banged this thing out. New features include an mp3 player up top, thumbnails and pictures for every post, that sweet event calendar to the right —> and hopefully hopefully hopefully a lot more posting (I’ve been trying to do a lot better in the past month or so.. not amazing but much improvement).

I’ll get those music and portfolio pages up real soon—I’ve already got the content so it’s just a matter of sorting things out.

Senioritis Mix

Just put this mix together as a sort of DJ resumé item.. it’s all done unrehearsed and improvised, like when I spin live. Really, I tried to do a playlisted, rehearsed mix and I’m just not good at working like that. So I just went off the top of my head. I tried to touch on as many bases as possible as far as genre goes without making it too hectic. Listening back it’s got a few more rough cuts with little/no transition than I’d like there to be, but it’s pretty much how I do things live soooooo.. that’s how it is on a live mix I guess.

The name comes from why I put this thing together in the first place, so I could get High School dance gigs. Laugh all you want but that TTM-57 wasn’t cheap and I’m lookin to start making money doin this stuff, y’know?

Join the Fight Against Crap

I spent 20 minutes this afternoon putting together a little counterviral media in response to those damn annoying Macy’s gift card ads everyone’s Myspace account gets hijacked to repost:

Check out that link (there are two other design variations and code for posting) and use these!

lookin sexy, vimeo dot com!

When I was about to post that last Bloomingfoods entry, I noticed the rainy day video I’d posted previously looked a little different. Subsequently I decided to check out Vimeo and see if there were any other new design elements going on, and it looks like they’ve done a huge overhaul! Vimeo already had one of the more pleasant web 2.0 designs going, and this new one seems leaps and bounds beyond where they were at before. They’ve taken the rounded corner interface popularized by companies like Apple, and made it personal and homey. Much more attractive than other Youtube alternatives like Veoh or Stage6.

Aside from the design being kind of beautiful, it’s a pretty well-designed service. And really the only video site I know of that only allows user-created content, which creates a really great video library of content which for the most part can’t be found anywhere else. Take a look!

Some of what I played at the Girl Talk show

D-Star Fashion Show Minimix
(Only like 12:00 long because it was just one designer’s show)

1) Utah Saints - Something Good
2) The Gossp - Standing in the Way of Control (Tronik Youth remix)
3) Freeform Five - No More Conversations (Fedde le Grand remix)
4) Justice vs. Simian - We Are Your Friends (Scottie B remix)
5) Miami Horror - Don’t Be On With Her
6) Sneaky Sound System - UFO (Van She Tech remix)
7) Live Element - Something About You
8) Peter Bjorn and John - Young Folks (Diplo remix)

As for a recap, I don’t think I could really explain it that well. People were all crazy go nuts. Video coming soon though, soon as I can get a copy..

boingboing devirginized!

Got my first boingboing today. Well, a site I design got boingboinged.

Still pretty sweet! Except for the fact that they really are facing Dept. of Homeland Security charges. I have a feeling they can beat them, though, and will humiliate DHS in the process..

Holy crap, something is actually here now!

Finally, I’ve got a domain name with a blog on it, along with some of my previous and current design work, as well as some photos. I’ve been meaning to do this for at least a year now. Even though the visual design is pretty plain, and not expanded too much from K2, it’s at least a start. I, for one, am excited.

Phew.

Oh my. I just worked 35 hours in two days. But hey, the Evil Twin Booking catalog is complete now, and I think 10,000 of them are rolling off a press somewhere in New Jersey. Scratch one intimidatingly large design project off the to-do list..

Now, if I could fall back asleep until this time tomorrow, I’d be.. no how about just ’til morning. Ah sleep, how I missed you.

tour posters!

Yaay, I finished designing tour posters today. I shall print them tomorrow, and mail them out on Saturday. Yay for doin’ stuff!

Sticks in Oh Six

OK. So. New Year’s Resolutions:

-Try to address people by their name when saying hello to them.
-Cut the bullshit out of my life.
-Tell people how I feel about them, worry less about saying the right thing.
-Keep good on promises and exchanges; especially those involving the postal service (as in parcels, not emo beats)

2005 was a test of my limits, and then getting ready for awesome. 2006 will be following through on the awesome, setting realistically sweet goals and attaining them. I will also set the record straight socially in 2006; and have the friends that I want to have and get over my social anxieties through a combination of thinking things through in new and more insightful ways, and actually controlling my physical self better to attain my goals.

I will also take care of myself very well this year, financially, physically, spatially and emotionally. I will continue to support myself through design and programming. I will keep myself well-nourished and exercised and push my limits (ie: bike trip to Chicago).

I might get a girlfriend, I might just learn how to have short-term crap more effectively. It should be easier to take care of with self-confidence and the different modes of overcoming social anxiety I plan to undertake.

I’ll respect my own boundaries of time and energy. I won’t over-commit myself.

I will get my passport. I will go to Europe. I will play music there. I will make more private entries, because shit is actually like having a journal. Fuck everyone else! Mwahaha. I am writing this for ME and it feels great.
