On my Myspace: Pumpkins’ Watchmen trailer track edit and Treasure Finger remix

Often times when I’m working on new tracks I’ll layer another track underneath to get a good structure and concept down, and then eventually take them out and replace hooks, basslines etc. with original stuff. I did that last week with a track that’s going to be called Get On the Floor—it started out as an edit of the song on the trailer for The Watchmen; an old Smashing Pumpkins song. Thought it might work as a dark club track.. but now that the original track is done I’m not sure if I’ll ever use it. Maybe?

Also up is my Treasure Fingers remix; full quality download coming as soon as that EP gets released. Sooner or later I’m sure!

But ya. Tracks up on that myspace. Check em out.

Two new edits: Katy Perry and K7

Haven’t had time (or a studio setup since I’ve been traveling) to bang out any original tracks lately but I put these together this week:

Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl (Flufftronix edit) (ysi)

Flufftronix - Machines Don’t Come (K7 - Come Baby Come & Machines Don’t Care - Beat Bang) (ysi)

Made the Katy Perry edit to play at a gay club in Louisville tomorrow.. should be funny seeing a bunch of gay dudes singing “I kissed a girl and I liked it” hahah

Dead Prez refix!

I always liked this song, never seems to get old. A few weeks ago on a walk I started humming the bassline and imagining a lo-fi DJ Deeon kinda beat over it; came home and put this together. Here’s a low qual version, you can buy the 320 via Paypal or get it from Snocap on thee myspace page.

More new tracks soon, and a new mix is on the way too! I’ve also begun assembling tracks for a couple self-released EPs, guess we’ll see if my money saving schemes add up to some Rad Summer releases or not!

I Admired Your Luck

This was recorded off my mixer last week at my friend James’s fashion show. A couple slower-than-usual remixes I threw together, and some other stuff reworked/inspired by the early Bond movies. At the end where the Louis Armstrong track comes in is when the show ended, and the models did a final group walk (I’m sure it’d seem out of place listening to it otherwise). That’s where the playlist ended and I started playing tracks for the reception—I’ve got another hour or so of that, but it’s pretty close to a mix I’m working on so no uploading there..

1. Moby - James Bond Theme (Dub Pistols Remix)
2. Kanye West - Diamonds from Sierra Leone (Ratatat Remix Intro)
3. Kanye West - Diamonds from Sierra Leone (Instrumental)
4. Matt Munro - From Russia With Love (Flufftronix edit)
5. Nancy Sinatra - You Only Live Twice (Flufftronix edit)
6. Moby - James Bond Theme (Dub Pistols Remix Reprise)
7. Louis Armstrong - We Have All The Time In The World
8. Webbie - Independent (Remix Instrumental)

Senioritis Mix

Just put this mix together as a sort of DJ resumé item.. it’s all done unrehearsed and improvised, like when I spin live. Really, I tried to do a playlisted, rehearsed mix and I’m just not good at working like that. So I just went off the top of my head. I tried to touch on as many bases as possible as far as genre goes without making it too hectic. Listening back it’s got a few more rough cuts with little/no transition than I’d like there to be, but it’s pretty much how I do things live soooooo.. that’s how it is on a live mix I guess.

The name comes from why I put this thing together in the first place, so I could get High School dance gigs. Laugh all you want but that TTM-57 wasn’t cheap and I’m lookin to start making money doin this stuff, y’know?

19 tracks just under 29 minutes, all at 320kbps in a .zip file.

Highlights from Sundance: The Movies, Part 1

IT IS FINE! EVERYTHING IS FINE

This starts out feeling weird, exploitative, and uncomfortable; and in the end just felt weird and uncomfortable; albeit with a message. The context basically makes the movie—violence/sex fantasies of a man with severe cerebral palsy, written by and starring a man with cerebral palsy. Despite critics calling this blanketly negative portrayal, I really think demonstrating that everyone has a dark side is a really humanizing position to take. I’m interested to see what people on here think when this one gets screened more.

TEETH

My favorite movie of the fest, by far. Think “Saved” meets 70s feminist revenge camp flick. But with incredibly professional production, and great acting (Jess Weixler, above, won the best performance award at Sundance). I really think this movie’s gonna be huge if it’s edited and marketed properly. Really, can you imagine a movie where the protagonist’s vagina bites off assaulter’s penises, and the protagonist is portrayed as a hero? Holy shit! And it’s a very entertaining and fun to watch movie, at that.

WAR/DANCE

This definitely hearkened Mat Hot Ballroom for me, but with a very different setting: Northern Uganda. This film follows kids from the Acholi tribe—a group routinely kidnapped, tortured, and murdered by rebels fighting the Ugandan government—as they ready themselves and participate in a national music competition. While they compete against hundreds of other schools from all across the country, it seems like for the Acholi in particular dancing isn’t only a matter of enjoyment and pride, it’s a means of survival. The use of music and dance are essential to these people to deal with and transcend their environments; it’s incredibly inspiring to watch, especially given each child’s first-hand accounts of all sorts of violence against their families and themselves.

Part 2:

EVERYTHING’S COOL
THE NINES

..Coming when I have more free time. Tomorrow?

In case you were not at either party last night I insisted on playing this at

Fresh from the lovely folks at Certified Bananas and Aurgasm comes a hilariously awesome Bmore edit [funniest since Jonny Blaze's "Black Sheep" Dave Chapelle edit, says I] of Sebastian the Crab singing “Kiss the Girl”
