A few weeks ago I found out about a new music hosting site called Bandcamp; as these are a dime a dozen these days I didn’t really pay it any heed. At some point I decided to look into things a little further, and the service they offer is pretty great. You upload a lossless file, and they put it into all different sorts of formats for you (mp3, ogg, flac, apple lossless). And you can sell tracks with them as well! From now on I’ll be using their service as my music page. (Just gotta figure out what I’m gonna do for posting up mixtapes as they’re not really set up for such things..)

My favorite part about that is how you can sell tracks on a donation basis, á la Radiohead and probably at least 40% of all the DIY punk house shows I’ve ever attended. I’ll be posting up a lot on there for free but also using it for all of my digital EP/LP releasing (new stuff on the way!).

Semi-related, I just finished up on my Love Lockdown remix. After Kanye posted up the studio stems (industry jive talk for tracked out sections of a song; ie vocals, drums, keys etc. all in their own audio files) I had to go back and expand upon my original ideas.

Oh and, there’s a crazy bonus track over in my music section I won’t mention here (yet). Well I guess aside from that—go check it out!

Hey all! A few months ago I put together a remix of Cross the Dancefloor which I’ve been playing out pretty regularly, and has been heard on BBC Radio 1 a couple times. I’ve always planned on giving it away, but have been holding out on release until the day the Treasure Fingers EP comes out to spread it around. So since the EP’s finally up on digital download sites (support ‘em!) here’s my mix in full 320kbps glory:

A project I worked on earlier this year has been in the tubes for awhile, and has just been spat out onto the internets: PORTISHEAD REIMAGINED. It’s an album consisting of remixes entirely sourced from Portishead’s album Third; released for free by my Chicago peeps Noise/Floor Crew.

The track I did is called Threads; it’s a dreary downtempo slow burner I attempted to rework into a dreary uptempo banger. Came out a little more strobe lighty than I was going for—and I did have another version in the works but I it went way too far out there into pitch slide arpeggio-land.

Anyway. Here’s my track:

I always liked this song, never seems to get old. A few weeks ago on a walk I started humming the bassline and imagining a lo-fi DJ Deeon kinda beat over it; came home and put this together. Here’s a low qual version, you can buy the 320 via Paypal or get it from Snocap on thee myspace page.

More new tracks soon, and a new mix is on the way too! I’ve also begun assembling tracks for a couple self-released EPs, guess we’ll see if my money saving schemes add up to some Rad Summer releases or not!

This was recorded off my mixer last week at my friend James’s fashion show. A couple slower-than-usual remixes I threw together, and some other stuff reworked/inspired by the early Bond movies. At the end where the Louis Armstrong track comes in is when the show ended, and the models did a final group walk (I’m sure it’d seem out of place listening to it otherwise). That’s where the playlist ended and I started playing tracks for the reception—I’ve got another hour or so of that, but it’s pretty close to a mix I’m working on so no uploading there..

Just put this mix together as a sort of DJ resumé item.. it’s all done unrehearsed and improvised, like when I spin live. Really, I tried to do a playlisted, rehearsed mix and I’m just not good at working like that. So I just went off the top of my head. I tried to touch on as many bases as possible as far as genre goes without making it too hectic. Listening back it’s got a few more rough cuts with little/no transition than I’d like there to be, but it’s pretty much how I do things live soooooo.. that’s how it is on a live mix I guess.

The name comes from why I put this thing together in the first place, so I could get High School dance gigs. Laugh all you want but that TTM-57 wasn’t cheap and I’m lookin to start making money doin this stuff, y’know?
