Extreme Internets Overhaul

So it’s been what, at least good year since I first started putting off redesigning this site. I can remember completing at least three drafts; while they had their merits will never ever see the light of day. I’m either really lazy or really picky when it comes to such things… so either nothing happens or something major.

And then today, with nothing to do and that damn hankering to do something productive, I banged this thing out. New features include an mp3 player up top, thumbnails and pictures for every post, that sweet event calendar to the right —> and hopefully hopefully hopefully a lot more posting (I’ve been trying to do a lot better in the past month or so.. not amazing but much improvement).

I’ll get those music and portfolio pages up real soon—I’ve already got the content so it’s just a matter of sorting things out.

RAD SUMMER DOT COM!!

Nothing much is there right now save some tenative tour dates and a bunch of random wacky backgrounds (reload the page a couple times and see for yourself!).. but as it says, me and CV will be hawking remixes on there, and it’s gonna be the spot for updates from the road while we’re on tour.

A flufftronix.com redesign is in the works and nearing completion, too. Just gotta figure out why the damn thing is crashing Firefox now..

Woah; an application that extracts mail/bulletins/comments from myspace

MyspaceMail (screenshot) is an OSX application that will copy all of your mail, comments, and current bulletins off of myspace and alert you when you receive anything new. Apparently the myspace layout changes every once in awhile and blocks this app, but an update gets released and it works again! (note: I’ve been using this app for a little over a month now, and haven’t needed to download an update yet)

This is pretty awesome; you can reply to messages from inside this application as well, definitely cutting down the amount of crap necessary to reap some sort of usefulness from this very cluttered social networking tool.

It’s too bad that sites like myspace, facebook, etc. seem to think that API’s (or even more RSS options) would either cut into their profits, or not yield enough benefit to develop. Because tools like this will keep being developed; people will keep figuring out ways to make the data non-proprietary. And then myspace/facebook will block said tools, and tool developers will find workarounds, until the big guys give in and stop wasting everyone’s time with a more open protocol, just like what happened with AIM and Trillian/gAIM/etc.

Trip number two away from Bloomington is in full swing, somewhere around halfway complete. I was at the National Conference on Organized Resistance over the weekend, and went to an all-time low number of workshops in the four years I’ve attended: one. Though, it was a good one, on solidarity economies (basically, the collaboration between disparate groups using and trying to create non-oppressive modes of exchange). I saw many old friends, quite a few I’m still friends with, and met a few really neat-seeming new folks. My roommate became infamous for righteously pulling out a knife at a workshop entitled “Anarchism and Pacifism”, a little while after the speaker said the best way to combat immediate sexual assault was by hugging your attacker.

Just about everyone from Indiana, a bunch of kids from Columbus, a car of New York kids, and one lady from Savannah all stayed at my friend Shara’s house. Thirty eight people and one cat were there last night! (Two of them babies) Everyone was for the most part super-respectful and cleaned up after themselves. Pretty awesome, fellow houseguests, pretty awesome. Also awesome: Shara’s new/old house with wonderfully hospitable peoples living in it. Yay skedge house.

Now I’m in the living room of a house with lots of old friends in Greensboro, NC. It’s been four years since I’ve been in this house; it looks a lot different and only one of the same people from back then lives here now. I’ve been drawn a map of the town to refresh my memory and update me on new places and ones which are now closed. Now, I retreat to the guest house (aka heated and furnished garage) for a good nights’ sleep. Sometimes it’s awesome to be home, but right now, I love traveling.
